The bailiff's role
The bailiff is a public officer who must be member of the Chambre
des Huissiers de justice du Quebec professional order.
Among the services offered by bailiffs:
- Serve court papers and procedures
- Serve letters of intent (mise en demeure)
- Execute court decisions
- Seizure of assets before judgment or after judgment
- Bailiff certified report (constat de huissier de justice)
- Sale by judicial authority
- Expulsion (Quebec rental board (Régie du logement) or other)
- Inventory (taking of)
- Security (taking of)
- Search warrant and seizure
- Affixing or removal of seals
- Arrest warrant for a ship
- Certified evaluation
- Auctions
